What happened to New Year's 2022?
Large parties, due to the new developments of the pandemic, are being cancelled.
State after state, and city after city, announced the cancellations of their celebrations this December.
It was usual for cities to have concerts and fireworks for the population, but this year agglomerations are not recommended, and for this reason, São Paulo, São Luís, Rio de Janeiro, Vitória, Salvador, Brasília, Florianópolis and 12 other capitals chose to do not hold the usual parties.
But all is not lost, in some places it will still be possible to see the fireworks display. Although, at Prospecto, we would like to see fireworks without sound, so as not to disturb the animals in this way. Many animals get hurt that day, as the noise is too loud for them, and as it is not possible to deal with this sound attack, some animals end up dying as victims of the despair they feel. Anyway, returning to the topic, so far only Recife and Florianópolis have confirmed the fireworks display, and Porto Velho and Boa Vista have decided to continue with the festivities. The other remaining Brazilian capitals have not yet spoken.
New Year's Eve – insurance
We brought this subject here on the blog, because what a lot of people don't realize is that taking a decision to cancel an event of this size is not something trivial.
Events of this magnitude are planned months in advance. Some insurances are closed up to two months before the end-of-year show takes place.
In the event insurance product, coverage is provided from installation and assembly, until the last machine and production team person leaves the site, after disassembly. But in cases of parties like New Year's, there are coverages that are contracted that go beyond the basics of Events Civil Liability and Personal Accidents. And it is about these coverages that we are going to talk about now.
Event Cancellation
Cancellation coverage for a New Year's Eve event will cover all production costs if the event is unable to take place due to force majeure other than the insured's fault.
Generally speaking, pandemics are risks excluded in most insurances, but if an insurer decided to accept this risk, by charging an additional premium, it would be today, indemnifying any of those states that are canceling their year-end events, on behalf of Covid.
In general, all those capitals that canceled these events, if they do not have any protection in the form of insurance, lost money with the decision they made. Because payments have already been made to service providers, and it's not customary to get that money back.
Fireworks Civil Liability
This coverage is critical for any event where the presence of fireworks is present.
In the coverage of Fireworks Civil Liability, material and bodily damage caused by fireworks is covered, provided it is proven that the insured, or their employees, failed to carry out the fireworks, or were negligent during the event.

For this reason, this is one of the few coverages within the event product, which comes with a series of technical specifications that must necessarily be complied with, under penalty of losing the right to compensation.

We don't even need to mention the sad case of the KISS nightclub, where fireworks were used in a totally wrong and illegal way, and many people died, and others suffered irreparable damage, as a result of this irresponsibility.
New Year's Eve is a time for celebration, fun and anticipation for the coming year. And, carrying out all the procedures to ensure the safety of all those who will be part of the event, be it the general public, the production team, and the artists is the right and smart decision.
