MARÍLIA MENDONÇA CASE
A VIEW FROM THE INSURANCE POINT OF VIEW

Marília Mendonça

Hello!
Who is counting the days to celebrate Christmas and New Year in a few weeks?
Regardless of who celebrates these festive days or not, let's agree that the city is much more beautiful with Christmas lights adorning all sides, right?

When we have light, we see more clearly and when there is a union of small lights, it for some reason warms our hearts.

Light not only illuminates, it fascinates. No wonder men are fascinated by the stars, always so bright and indifferent to us every night.

Maybe that's why singers, actors and other idols receive the title of stars. Human beings like us, no doubt, but who have a little more brightness, a little more of something, which, like light, draws us to them.

And perhaps it is because of this power of all that shines that it is so difficult for us human beings to accept when the light of life is extinguished and the darkness of death is present.

A little over a month ago, one of those glowing lights went out in a tragic plane crash, and the life and death of that light, along with that of the other victims of that tragedy, will be our theme today, here at #MondayBlog.

MARÍLIA MENDONÇA
LIFE & DEATH
The girl Marília was born on July 22, 1995, in Cristianópolis, Goiás. Her family of humble origins went through many difficulties and this was one of the reasons that led Marília to start doing small shows in bars.

In an interview she shared that one of her biggest caches before her fame had been R$800.00, which she used to pay three late-paying electricity bills at her house.

But her story is very impressive. It all started when her grandfather gave her granddaughter a guitar as a birthday present combined with the cost of the instrument's lessons, so she could sing in church.

At the age of 12, she began her songwriting career, and hits such as “É com ela que estou”, “Até você voltar” and “Cuida bem dela” are just a few of many of her compositions that became great successes, sung by other greats artists.

At the age of 20, in 2015, after years of undeniable success as a songwriter, Marília actually decides to sing her own compositions, having as her first successful single the song “Eu sei de Cor”. In 2016 with the immense success of her hits she was crowned the Queen of Suffering.

Marília was the most listened to Brazilian artist on Youtube in 2017 in the Brazil ranking, ranking 13th in the world ranking. In 2019, she won the Latin Grammy for best country music album.

Marília Mendonça was known as someone with a great heart and talent. A Brazilian music prodigy, a true national phenomenon, as she managed to stay at the top of Brazilian music for 5 years in a row.

She was a real star, who unfortunately left us too young, too soon. On November 5th of this year, the plane she was on, along with her uncle and agent Mendonça, her producer and two other members of her team, crashed and everyone died from the impact.

The recognized leader of the female sertanejo, of female empowerment, left in a tragic way and Prospecto offers its most sincere condolences to all her family and fans. As well as the families of all precious lives that were on board the plane that sad day.

INSURANCE POINT OF VIEW
As always, Prospecto comes to talk about this tragic situation in order to show how the insurance could work and which products and coverage could help in matters related to finance.

I don't know if you know, dear reader, but Marília was in the middle of a tour when everything happened. On the day of the accident, she and her team were heading to a concert in Caratinga, Minas Gerais.

The singer's advisors liked to emphasize that Marília had the most popular concert schedule in the market, with an average of 20 per month. So we asked ourselves how the scheduling issues will be resolved, as obviously contracts have been signed, venues rented, and concerts announced, in addition to tickets sold. There may even be issues with sponsors in some cases.

From an insurance point of view, with regard to the shows, if her producer had event insurance for her entire tour, with the No-Show coverage, with the accidental death of the main artist, there would be compensation for the entire cost of the tour to be carried out, and depending on the type of policy issued, there could be compensation even for the expected profit on the scheduled shows.

We noticed that the producer decided to put other artists from its roll to cover the shows, which makes us believe that there was no active event insurance policy for Marília Mendonça's tour. In an interview, Maraisa said that she offered to cover all of her friend's concerts with her sister, with the aim of continuing Marília Mendonça's legacy.

Also within the event product, for all the people who died with it in the air accident and who were employees of the Work Show producer, the Employer's Liability coverage can be activated, if it is proven that the producer contracted the service of a company of air taxi with bad character or bad equipment. Which does not seem to be the case, so far.

Another coverage that could be triggered within the event insurance, if it were present in the policy, of course, is the Personal Accident coverage. Yes, the coverage covers accidental death of employees in transit to the insured event.

On the personal level of the departed, we hope that funeral care insurance as well as life insurance has been taken out to bring at least some financial support to the loved ones who have been left behind.

It is still possible that there is some type of civil liability action against the air taxi company and, if there is, the insurance policies of Professional Liability and Civil Aviation Insurance of the same can be invoked. Since none of the airlines can operate without at least these two current annual insurances. Now, whether or not there will be legal action after the dust settles, let's see and if there is, we're back to commenting here.

And, finally, a question remains, after the singer's death, how will the professionals who worked directly for her be supported?
Specifically in the case of Marília Mendonça and her entire team, they are part of a larger production company, which will certainly refer their professionals to other artists in the company, to other events.

But what would happen if the producer was Marília, with her death, how would the other professionals be supported?

And you producer, have you thought about how to protect those who work for you?

There are many solutions to ensure protection for those we love and work with in the insurance market. We at Prospecto are experts in helping you find the perfect solution for you. Regardless of the situation, count on us.

The purpose of our post today was to show that the impossible, the unimaginable, can happen. And unfortunately, after the loss of someone dear, someone special, one of the ways to bring comfort to those who are left, is to have thought about protecting the ones you love, even after your own death.

So plan and be on the safe side.

We look forward to seeing you for our next #MondayBlog.

Have a great week, lovers!
