Hello!
It's another Monday and we've brought you a very special #MondayBlog.
Today we want to dedicate this post to a brilliant individual, who left us too soon.
On May 14, 2022, Breno Silveira, from Brasilia, died after suffering a massive heart attack, while filming his next feature film in Pernambuco.
The Brazilian audiovisual industry has suddenly lost one of its greatest talents, a world-renowned director and photographer.
And as you well know, dear reader, the audiovisual has a place of honor in the heart of the Prospecto. And we couldn't pass up this chance to honor, albeit posthumously, the great Breno Silveira.
If you already know Breno's story, come and remember with us. And if you don't know who he was, this is the perfect opportunity for you to get to know him a little bit.
Olívia and Valentina's father, Breno has always said that his dream in reality was to be a musician.
This must be why he signs the direction of many music videos, which won him awards on MTV, such as: Minha Alma, from band O Rappa; Amor I Love You, by Marisa Monte, and É Preciso Saber Viver, by Titãs.
Silveira graduated in cinematography in Paris from École Louis-Lumière, and his first job was as a photography assistant in 1984 on the soap opera “Bete Balanço”.
His film debut took place through the film “Carlota Joaquina” by Carla Camuratti in 1995, in which he was director of photography.
Still as director of photography, he won the Brazilian Cinema Grand Prix with the film “Eu, Tu, Eles”, by Andrucha Waddington.
But Breno's big stage was undoubtedly the feature films.
In his first film as a director he achieved a huge audience and box office success, which for him was something totally unexpected.
In interviews, he stated several times that he always sought in his career, stories that moved him, and that was his target when he decided to tell the story of Zezé Di Camargo and Luciano in the feature “Dois Filhos de Francisco”.
In 2005, when the film was released, it hit all the domestic box offices and was later our representative at the Oscars for best foreign film.
Another great success of his was “Gonzaga de Pai para Filho”, which won in three categories at the Brazilian Cinema Grand Prix, including the best film category. Once again telling the dramatic story of a family, in the turbulent relationship of father and son.
In fact, what can be noticed is that, whether in films, series or documentaries, Breno had his career marked by Brazilian stories inspired by “real facts”.
Until he was 58 years old, almost 40 of his life were dedicated to audiovisual productions, of the most diverse and Breno Silveira is credited as director of more than 23 cinematographic works between films and series.
His most recent works are the series “Dom” and “1 Contra Todos”. The Dom series is part of the Prime Video streaming platform.
But he also signed the direction of the musical film “Gilberto Gil: Tempo Rei”, and the TV documentary Amyr Klink- Mar Sem Fim.
Another great success with Breno's touch was “Entre Irmãs” released both as a feature and miniseries and which reached approximately 84 million viewers!
Breno Silveira was working on the direction of the film that would mark Fernanda Montenegro's return to cinemas, a project by Globo Filmes and Globoplay. The film tells the true story of a resident of Copacabana who spent months filming drug trafficking activities on a nearby hill and handed the recordings to a reporter.
If you've seen at least one of the works of this talented man, you know that Brazilian cinema has lost one of its greatest filmmakers.
But who knows, later on, another film talent will tell us about this icon's life on the big screen?!
